A question I get asked a lot, and many people want something different to popular choices.

Some typical looks for alcoves at the moment are as follows, but there are some great ways to style these up by using attractive storage, stand out hardware and unusual colours…

Need the storage?

Alcoves provided the extra space for neat built in, or free standing furniture. These nooks give that tucked away feeling and helps your room appear larger, allowing more room for other things.

Built in furniture is perfect for alcoves as you can have it made specifically to fit. Some people may want this more permanent look, but others may want the freedom to swap pieces around and change furniture later.

Either way, using alcoves for storage is a really convenient use of space to hide or display items, without disrupting the remaining layout.

 

Keep It Simple

Alcoves don’t have to be overly dressed or filled up by furniture. You can keep the look simple and elegant, if you don’t require the space for anything other than for it to be part of the decor.

A couple of shelves, with minimal decorative items, a simple plant or a wall/floor lamp may be all you want and need.

An Aesthetic Vision

Alcoves are great opportunities for adding some extra style into your room. Again if you don’t need these spaces for storage, or to slot furniture pieces into, why not purely use them as a chance to add some drama?

Fabulous art, gorgeous full tall plants, photo gallery walls or stunning wallpaper in alcoves are great ideas to make your space more aesthetically pleasing…

Unique Alcove Decor

Trying to differentiate your alcoves from the more common looks out there? Why not have your alcoves shaped into arches? Maybe fill them with plants to give a curated botanical display? Perhaps use bright colour sporadically within the spaces to give the wow factor? You can even use these spaces as a desk or crafting area.
