Which do you prefer? This all depends on one’s own taste. Either way tends to project a difference in style, and personality. There is no right answer, it’s all down to preference when it comes to your specific furniture ideals. Both looks can be equally as fabulous…

Stand Alone Pieces

With individual furniture items, it can be tricky, as they need to compliment other pieces within the room. Each product can be totally different in style, material and colour, but they need to sit right together, and the look needs to work as a whole.

Its purely a visual thing to know if furniture looks right as a collective interior design. Do totally different items work really well together, with the rest of your scheme, or do they just feel oddly placed?

It could be that their locations need adjusting. Perhaps two pieces don’t work close in proximity, but at either ends of the room, they have better purpose, stand out more, so then do work together.

A lot of the time, people choose different pieces due to feeling very drawn to individual furniture items. One may be an antique, another may be a sentimental possession to cherish, and others may be more modern – rich is design aesthetic. Together, they make a unique interior, not to be seen elsewhere. An unusual mix, that oozes personal style and that tells a story.

A Bit of Both

You can of course mix both looks. Mostly matching pieces with the surprise element of one different product thrown in, for example.

An all mango wood furniture range in a living room may have an unexpected red acrylic coffee table in the centre.

Maybe a bedroom kitted out with grey high gloss wardrobes and storage, has a black metal industrial accent chair in the corner.

Co-ordinating Collections

A cohesive furniture collection in a room is really appealing to people because it gives the space a defined staple look. To have all furniture pieces matching, means the room flows easily and everything has the same specific style. It portrays a particular taste in one go, and is much simpler to choose, and purchase as whole.

Fitted furniture in any room is a great way to achieve precision and continuity. These bespoke products feel like part of the walls, so it gives a space enormous identity. Fitted furniture does not have to be uniformed in style across your room by any means, but it’s a great way to make that solid connection between each functional piece.

You may choose furniture that does not match exactly in style or colour, but pieces that blend well together. This way, the eye still glides effortlessly around the room.

Some furniture ranges have the same components in a variety of colour options, so it may be that you choose from the exact same range, but have a mix of the different colour items.

Mixing, or Matching, for any Room

It doesn’t matter which room you are replacing furnishings in, every space from bathrooms to kids rooms, can have either a more uniformed, or more eclectic look, when it comes to furniture.

Either way can look great, no matter what the function of the space. The main thing is that you choose a concept that will suit you. One that will make you feel at ease and that will reflect your personal taste.
