Light blues are becoming increasingly popular in interior design and there are an abundance of shades to choose from. It’s a wonderful colour to use in modern homes and more traditional settings, due to its versatility.

Although blue is typically seen as a cold, or cooler colour, I think that some blues are just so cheerful, that they spill warmth into a space. The types of blues I am referring to, are those that remind us of the sky. Seeing the blue sky, means a clear and sunny day, so why wouldn’t we get that glowing feeling when used inside. Although many light, bright and medium blues can be used to cool down a room, some can be extremely warming and joyful too.

The loft space above is wrapped in the most striking blue. To me, it looks like a room in the sky. Darker blues or navy blue wouldn’t quite give the same effect. These would give a more dramatic, moody aesthetic, which can look fantastic too – if that’s the look you want.

How you can use light blue

The great thing about light blue, is that it looks beautiful with so many other colours.

• Pair with a dark red, a rusty orange or a bright yellow to create quirky decor.

• Use as an accent in a predominantly neutral interior, to bring a happy pop of colour to your space.

• Light blues are a brilliant choice for a kids room. Both boys and girls love it, and the cheer it brings.
