Wallpaper can be used in so many ways but quite often, people shy away from using it at all, in fear of making mistakes. Many struggle with where to put wallpaper, or how to use it in effectively.

Painted surfaces are great, but wallpaper gives you a massive choice in terms of texture, pattern and print. There are so many ways you can totally transform walls and other elements in the home, using wallpaper.

Here are ten example places of where to wallpaper….

1. In Picture Frames

A printed wallpaper, especially elaborate patterns can act as art. Better still, placing the paper in picture frames makes it a temporary feature, and can be changed easily at any time.

2. With Panelling

Following on from hanging frames, if you want your wallpaper to be more permanent, but not to dominate an entire wall, pannelled wallpaper sections may be the answer. Frame the paper, or create shapes where the wallpaper can be placed. This way, you can create the best of both worlds, paper and paint on the same wall.

3. On Furniture

Wallpaper is a great addition for making furniture look more unique and bespoke. If you are revamping a welsh dresser, or desk, you can cover drawer fronts with it. Wallpaper as a decorative backing in a glass cabinet looks amazing too.

4. Half Wall

This is another great idea, if you don’t want to cover an entire room in wallpaper. Wallpaper can go above or below a dado rail, or paneling, to create a beautifully interesting and textured wall decor look.

5. Under Arches or Goal Posts

If you have open arched entrances from room to room, or even goal posts joining open plan spaces, wallpapering under these is a wonderful visual. This is a unusual use for wallpaper making it unexpected, fun and eye catching.

6. On the Ceiling

If you have a wallpaper in mind that you really love, which will suit a ceiling, then go for it. I have seen so many stunning rooms created with wallpaper on the ceiling. It’s just such a style statement!

7. Behind Shelving

Highlight shelving with wallpaper behind to create a wonderful display. This is a lovely idea to include a small amount of wallpaper into a decor scheme, ideally with a small scaled print.

8. On Doors

Wallpaper internal doors, either individually, or as well as walls, to create hidden doors. You can even wallpaper the inserts if your doors have trimmed detail. Wardrobe doors also look wonderful with wallpaper, and can be instantly transformed if they are looking tired, worn or outdated.

9. A True Feature Wall

Enhance a unique wall with a beautiful bold patterned wallpaper. I would suggest that the wall is an unusual shape, or in a prominent place, so that it’s really noticed. Highlighting a particularly tall wall space with wallpaper will stop it looking too bare for example.

10. On Every Wall

Don’t discount the old fashioned method of papering every wall. This seems to have dwindled in popularity over the last few years, with few daring to take the plunge to wallpaper all four walls. I am a big fan of this, and believe this is an amazing way to transform the decor of any room.
