A front door in an unexpected colour is one of my favourite things in the world to see. It’s a gorgeous, considered and fun idea for any home and I would recommend it to anyone. Here’s why you should do it……

Add instant style

Think about it, this is the doorway and entry point to your entire home. How do you want to feel when you arrive outside? You want to feel like you; like you have arrived at your home, nobody else’s; a home that you made and love.

Use the front door as an opening, not just into your house literally, but into your whole personal style aesthetic. Visitors and passing people will immediately know that this is a home exterior, and in turn, interior, that means business.

The front door is a focal point for the outside of your house, so don’t blend it in, make it stand out. Create a bold style statement that reflects you and your distinct taste. Make it feel like home as soon as you enter, and not a moment after.

Create happiness

What do you do when you pass a bright yellow, stunning pink or sky blue door? You turn straight away to look at it and I am guessing you smile. That’s what I do anyway.

A door in a beautiful colour, just draws the eye and fills the onlooker with a little extra happiness for the day. I know this works for me, and I think it will for you.

It’s a lovely touch to add your favourite colour, or just a shade you love, to the door of your whole home. What a wonderful thing to do for others too, whether it be family or friends visiting, or passers by. It will draw a smile for them as well, and they will say ‘…the house with the orange door’ whenever they describe where you live.

Be different from the rest

Do you live in a terraced house or a road full of the same style homes? Is it easy to spot which one is yours? Do you want it to look different from every other home in your area?

This could apply more with new build homes. Where every house currently looks similar, and residents haven’t had time to put their own stamp on their homes. If this is the case, don’t be put off by their modern build make up. Be brave enough to change the outcome and step away from the exterior design chosen for you. A coloured front door is the perfect starting point to achieve this individuality.

If your house is of an older, or more traditional age, there may already be points of difference from one house to the next, where you live. A door with colour however, would only enhance the look of your home further. This could really help highlight any unusual and beautiful features too.

Maybe your home is stand alone, a detached house separated far from other buildings, or a country cottage surrounded by nature. In this case, a front door of colour would be even more appropriate and appreciated, as it would cement your home as the special and unique property that it is.

As an end note, be sure to choose the colour of your front door wisely. It should either compliment, or contrast the building type, in an effective and stylish way.
