How to Choose the Right Dining Furniture for Christmas Gatherings

Christmas is almost here, which means it’s time to organise those traditional family gatherings and parties with friends. Many of these celebrations will be hosted from the comfort of your home, so it’s more than likely that the dining room will be the venue of choice.

Although it is more everyday use of our furniture, we keep in mind when purchasing, it is handy to consider other occasional events that we hold dear.

It is important to pick the right dining furniture that suits it’s intended use and purpose. Maybe large dinner parties are frequent in your home, particularly around Christmas time. Perhaps it’s more likely to be close family around your table during the festivities.

Convenience and practicality also need to fit into furniture decisions, especially something as large as a dining table. In this guide, I will hopefully give you some food for thought (pardon the pun) when planning dining for the festive season…

The Effect of Different Table Shapes

Rectangular Dining Tables are your go-to choice for larger family gatherings. They offer plenty of seating, and space for many courses. If you have the long space to accommodate, then a rectangle shape fills a dining space brilliantly and looks substantially stylish.

Square Dining Tables add a modern touch to dining areas. They are perfect for smaller gatherings and are a good option for people who don’t have a lot of space. Great for intimate dinners for two or four.

Round Dining Tables are ideal for creating cozy and friendly dining experiences. They encourage conversation and socialising, as people are sitting closer together and are less likely to engage in separate chats. Perfect for immediate family and close company. Great for space saving.

Oval Dining Tables combine the benefits of both round and rectangular tables. They work well for different numbers of guests and add a stylish touch to your dining space. Oval shaped tables seem to be less common that other shapes so can look really effective as part of your decor.

Remember that extendable versions of all the above shapes are available on the market. These are a great alternative, if you struggle for space and need something smaller for day to day. You can then use the extension only when you need it, without disrupting your core room styling. Fold away chairs that can be stored away, are ideal for an additional seating solution too.

Choosing the Perfect Dining Furniture

When selecting dining furniture, consider the following:

Available Space and Room Layout: Measure your space to ensure your table fits comfortably and leaves enough room for guests to move around. The last thing you want if for people to be struggling to squeeze past others and to not have enough room around them.

Budget-Friendly Options: You don’t need to spend a fortune to create a good-looking dining space. Look for deals, consider second-hand options, or explore DIY projects to add a Christmas vibe.

Style and Comfort: Choose a table that either matches or compliments decor style and do the same for your chairs. Choose seating that will be comfortable for your and your guests, especially when you are likely to be sitting there for a long period of time.

Creative Lighting: Is your exsisting lighting suitable for the atmosphere your are trying to create at the dining table? If not, have a think about amending this to give the ambiance you desire for the space.

The Little Extras

There is always room for more when it comes to creating the right look and feel. Dining is no exception. In fact this is one of the scenarios where the details are most important.

Personal Touches and Decorations: Personalize your dining area with your favorite Christmas deccies. Don’t leave out the table when it comes to festive decorating – it’s the place you are likely to spend a large portion of the day. These personal touches can make it feel cozy, inviting and extra festive for you, and your guests.

Table Setup: Match your plates, glasses, and silverware to your table’s theme. You can also make it more fun by using plates with holiday designs or colorful patterns.

Tablecloth and Centerpieces: When setting the table, pick tablecloths, table runners, and centerpieces that fit the theme of the event. Thai will give a cosy look, especially additional textiles.
